The honeymoon suite is filled with Octagons:

Below text is inspired by various websites I found when the concept of the 8fold path could possibly be linked to the octagon imagery used in 4*21.

The number 8 is also an important number in Tarot, and as we've all seen our Show is terribly fond of Tarot cards and Tarot reading, which is why I think the number 8 is of import now. Usually the number 8 is read to mean the following things, above all is the infinity symbolism of the number in that it does not have a beginning or an ending point, but is a circle, always repeating itself.

* Cycles
* Infinity
* Fluidity
* Balance
* Success
* Intention
* Inspiration
* Revolution
* Opportunity
* Expansion
* Repetition
* Expression
* Perception
* Sustainability
* Transcendence
Many of these words are words that are freely floating around the metaing pps of our fandom to describe the current relationship in Supernatural and it's interesting to me that the Honeymoon Suite would house such a symbol as the octagon:

The meaning of the Octagon

The symbolic meaning of octagon deals with:

* Regeneration
* Totality
* Infinity
* Rebirth
* Transition

The octagon is found in baptisteries as a symbol representing eternal life as - likely because the number eight is symbolic of renewal.

We see further religious architectural connections when we recognize many sacred buildings (churches, temples, etc) were designed with octagonal structures supporting a dome on top.
This interplay between circle (dome) and square speaks of the transitional relationship between earth and heaven. The circle is symbolic of the heavens/infinity and the angles of the square symbolizes an earthly presence.

This is an amazingly profound concept - one that many ancient orders were aware of and so took the time to design their places of worship with these symbols in mind.

The eighth step upon the sacred stairway ascending to the first heavens climbed by Mohammad lead to a sea of illumined angels in deep and focused meditation upon the highest of holies.

One website mentioned that the Octagon is connected with the four cardinal points of the compass, which would also make sense in terms of our boys and their being Wayward Sons...

This imagery is often used in meditations in conjunction with the Buddhist concept of the eightfold path:

* Right View
* Right Thought
* Right Word
* Right Action
* Right Livelihood
* Right Effort
* Right Mindfulness
* Right Concentration

Check out this website: http://picardietourisme.com/upload/Caroline/symbolism.pdf (it's superinteresting!)

Isn't it interesting that the brothers would smash up the room so much and specifically destroy the octagon separation in the process?

thanks very much for this -- I was just rewatching and noticing very clearly all the times Castiel is perfectly haloed (as usual); the very scrupulous way they don't put Ruby against red (in the crucial confrontation scene, when Sam shields here, she is standing against a dark pillar...) yet do put Anna against red; the red lights shining on Sam in the safe room; the red-black stain of blood on Mary's gown; and also the red light on the mean fake Dean in the saferoom; so I was really ready to wonder what all those octagons were doing, especially as Sam was framed by them again and again. The most hopeful moment of the episode was at 38 minutes, when Sam throws down the knife and the two brothers stand equally lit by the overhead light, with lights on each side of them and octagons freakin EVERYWHERE -- even the headboard of the bed -- which forms the octagons into two big "celtic" crosses! They're standing as equals, in brotherly love, trying to find common ground -- just for a moment, before it all comes crashing down. So there is a big, important moment of hope there -- let's cling to it!

Thank you for reading:-)

I know, right? They were so messing with us in 4*21! I love that they're aware that we think about their lighting choices and music choices and lyric tie-ins and that they totally play us using that.

I just posted the lyrics for Wayward Son, and it reads like a poetic rundown of s4 to me. What's your thinking on that?

I'm sure there'll be a makeup scene at the end of s4. I cannot deal with the thought of them leaving a broken relationship hanging over hiatus!

It is very cool, and I especially love the halos.

I was continuing to think about the octagon, and I think the wheel of fortune is pretty significant-- the eight points of the compass folded into it -- and the resultant symbol of anarchy or chaos that is the eight arrows pointing in all directions.

In s2, Sam died, and Dean brought him back -- but s3 and s4 have been about his realization that messing with the natural order to bring Sam back was the wrong thing to do -- even tho he felt like he had no other choice at the time. Is Sam "dead" to Dean now? (I hope not, but....) and will Dean do whatever it takes to bring him back? He signed himself over the Angels to keep Sam from having to be "the One" --- but the sad sad look in Castiel's eyes makes me REALLY AFRAID for Dean, as well as for Sam. There can have been no good reason to let Sam out, or Castiel wouldn't have been so sneaky.

Sam is NOT IN HIS CAGE -- and who knew that would be SO BAD.
